"CLER has proven to be extremely effective at capturing grease, cooking fumes, and fine particles from both fryers and griddles. We have noticed a clear improvement in indoor air quality, with less lingering odor and a fresher feeling both in the kitchen and in the technical room where our ventilation equipment is located."

The Company
High-volume grease generation, constant maintenance
Quick service restaurants generate large amounts of airborne grease and particles from fryers and griddles. Traditional kitchen exhaust systems struggle with this load, causing clogged filters, greasy ductwork, and frequent maintenance.
McDonald's Gotland had typical QSR problems: filter changes 3 to 4 times per year, duct cleaning 2 to 3 times per year, lingering odors, and concerns about air quality for staff.
This created operational disruptions, mounting costs, and significant waste from disposable filters.
THE CHALLENGE
High maintenance requirements
Traditional grease filters capture some grease, but most small particles pass through and accumulate in ducts and on exhaust fans.
This buildup reduces efficiency, creates fire hazards, and requires constant attention. For McDonald's Gotland, the cycle was predictable but disruptive: quarterly filter changes, multiple duct cleanings per year, labor costs, and downtime.
The disposal of used grease filters created waste that conflicted with McDonald's sustainability goals. Most filters cannot be recycled and end up in landfills.
The Solution
Capturing grease before it enters the system
McDonald's Gotland tested CLER Pro in their kitchens. The system installs at the kitchen hood and catches grease before it enters the ventilation system.
CLER Pro uses spinning air instead of filters. Rotation creates forces up to 5,000 g, separating particles by weight into a collection chamber. The self-cleaning system automatically rinses captured grease using minimal liquid.
Installation took less than a day with no changes to existing ventilation. CLER Pro runs continuously without manual work, handling all particle types from fryers, griddles, and other equipment.
The Results
90% less maintenance and no filter waste
The results were immediate. In three months, CLER Pro captured over 15 liters of grease that would have clogged ducts, fans, and filters.
Air quality improved. Staff noticed less odor and a fresher environment in the kitchen and technical room.
Maintenance dropped dramatically. McDonald's Gotland eliminated quarterly filter changes and reduced duct cleaning from 2 to 3 times per year to once every 3 years. 90% reduction in maintenance costs and disruptions.
Environmental impact improved significantly. No disposable filters means no filter waste. Collected grease can be recycled. Lower energy use reduced the restaurant's carbon footprint. No harsh chemicals needed for duct cleaning.
"Our experience with CLER has been very positive - from installation to performance and ongoing support. We are confident that this technology can set a new standard for air quality and operational efficiency in McDonald's restaurants."
